One of my biggest passions is not how much money I make, but how I can better earn people’s trust. I hear from so many people about bad contractors that took money up front and never came back. Or contractors that installed a roof but, never returned when there was a problem.
I don’t ever want to be that type of contractor. We are a family owned business that puts our money back into the community, this is very important to us. We buy all of our material local, and all of our shingles we use are made right here in Indiana. We are members of the BBB, Gosport Chamber of Commerce, and Angie’s List.
We want to make sure that when we are done with a job, the homeowner is completely happy with the work they received. Our motto is “a roofing company in Gosport IN you can trust” because we want to continue to provide quality service that customers can rely on. We want our clients to be able to tell friends and family about us when they are in need of roofs, gutters, or siding. We want to help people with their questions or concerns and not just focus on how much money we can while doing business.
There are times when we don’t make very much on a project, but we feel good about doing a good job that helps other people. We look at every job the same. It doesn’t matter if we are doing a big job or a small job because every job is just as important to us. We take the same pride and craftsmanship in all of our projects. We make sure that the project is completed as close to perfect as possible. When we are finished our clients will want to tell other people about us. This in return will help us grow and we will be able to continue to help people in our community.
I love what I do because I get to help people.
There was a woman that needed a roof very badly. She was referred to us by someone that knew me. I met with her one day to inspect her roof because she thought she might have some storm damage. During the inspection, I noticed she had missing shingles on her roof and some hail damage. I spoke with her about how she could file an insurance claim. A few days after the claim was made, I was able to meet with her insurance adjuster. The adjuster agreed the roof was damaged by hail and the wind. The insurance company agreed to pay for the roof, some siding, and some of her gutters. This was very good news! After the insurance adjuster had left, I sat down with her to pick out color options for her roof.
As a single mother with two children, she was worried about the $1000 deductible. One of her children has a disability and participates in therapy a couple of times a week. The mother takes care of him and receives some help from the state financially. This help she receives limits her to how much she can work, and how much money she can make. So to say the least, she is on a very tight budget.
Okay, now for the good news! Since she had three separate areas damaged on her home (roofing, siding, and gutters) the insurance company agreed to pay for overhead and profit. Homeowners usually have to hire three different contractors to complete this type of damage so insurance companies offer to pay for overhead and profit. When you qualify for this, the insurance pays 20% more on each trade. This is exactly what the homeowner needed.
The homeowner was able to get a new roof, siding fixed, and all new gutters. The part that really made her day was that after getting everything fixed, she had over a thousand dollars left over from the insurance money. This was a much-needed blessing. She was able to get her kids some things they needed before school started, along with other things. This woman is a great mom, a hard-worker, and she always kept her yard and house very nice.
This was one of the many stories that make me realize how people can help other people. We didn’t try to go into this job to make money. It was about knowing we could do something good, and feel like we made a real difference for that family. This is one of the many reasons I love what I do.
